Ecotoxicology - from Gene to Ocean

The Ecotoxicogoy platform (EGO) encompasses the current ecotoxicological science at the University of Gothenburg, bring together scientists from complementing disciplines in molecular genetics, cell biology, physiology, organismic and community ecotoxicology and mode of action research. The platform integrates current individual research efforts in ecotoxicology and genomics into ecotoxicogenomics.

Utilization of Ecotoxicological Research in Society -
Bridging the gap between Scientists and Stakeholders

The platform Ecotoxicology – from Gene to Ocean (EGO) and Gothenburg Centre for Marine Research at the Centre for Environment and Sustainability, GMV, hereby invites you to participate in a one-day workshop about utilization of scientific results in society and the interaction between academic research and stakeholders in the area of chemicals; their use, ecotoxicity, hazard and risk assessment and biomonitoring. The workshop aims to bridge the current gap between results produced by science and results needed by risk regulators, producers and other stakeholders. We will have participants from authorities, industry, NGOs and academia, who will present their views on this issue. The conference is free of charge and lunch is included, but travel expenses have to be paid by the participants.

Time: 1 March 2012 from 10.00 - 17.00
Venue: Lyktan, Wallenberg Conference Centre, Medicinaregatan 20 A, Gothenburg

PhD course: Ecotoxicogenomics and mechanisms of toxicity - in August 2012

Please find information and register to the PhD course in Ecotoxicogenomics and mechanisms of toxicity here. For more information please contact Prof. Malin Celander at the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences, Gothenburg university (malin.celander@bioenv.gu.se).

EGO Funds

The EGO platform is, via EGO Funds financing several projects within the platform. The use of ecotoxicogenomics (e.g. transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolimics) is of great interest and a number of start-up projects have been financed. To stimulate collaboration, the EGO platform promotes and gives financial support to ‘pair student projects’ within the platform. Also other projects of scientific interest are financed. See a summary on all financed project here.

The Pollution and Ocean Acidification Project (POAP)

The POAP is a joint research initiative within the EGO platform where we study the effects of low pH and exposure to pollutants or change in other environmental factors, e.g. salinity or temperature. Read more about the project here.

Course: Project in practice

EGO members have participated in the action based learning course, 'project in practice' were we learned how to run projects more efficiently. For more info.
